Dear Fellow Cattle Producers,
Welcome to this Beef Quality Assurance training.
Your participation in this Texas Beef Quality Producer program is one way to show our customers, whether they are calf buyers or consumers, that Texas producers take EVERY step possible to raise beef for them that is safe, delicious, and raised responsibly.
Starting with your genetic plan for your cow herd, all the way through branding, weaning and beyond, the day-to-day management of your cattle impacts the wholesomeness and quality of beef. It doesn't matter if your herd is large or small. Meat scientists estimate there are 542 potential consumers - just for the retail steaks and roasts- from a single beef carcass. Your management at the cow-calf or stocker level makes a difference in whether or not those 542 consumers have a good eating experience.
Moreover, beyond our responsibility to the consumer, adopting Beef Quality Assurance is the right thing to do for your operation in terms of market access. Today the market is finally rewarding producers for the value they’ve added to their cattle with this type of “total quality management.” Tomorrow, producers who haven’t done so may find their marketing options limited.
Many volunteer hours have gone into developing this program to best serve your needs now and in the future. I would like to thank the producers, auction operators, feedyard managers, packer representatives and university friends who have shared their time and insight with us. Also, the Texas Beef Quality Producer program and this BQA CD program would not be possible without the outstanding support of the sponsors listed below.
Thank you for participating.
Sincerely,
Bob McCan,
President, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association
